Dale VanLoh was born on September 5, 1944, and grew up in Vernon, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University from 1963 to 1967 and graduated with a BBA in Accounting. He went to Vietnam in October of 1968, where he was a 1st lieutenant and the S-5 advisor in a MACV psychological warfare unit operating in the Vinh Long Province. He worked as an advisor to a Vietnamese military unit and traveled throughout the province trying to win the support of local villagers and obtain information on VietCong units and activities. During his tour, he earned a Bronze Star and an Air Medal. He is married to Laura VanLoh.
