  • Capt. Joe L. Murfee, III, was born on November 16, 1943 in Lubbock, Texas. A graduate of Lubbock High School, Murfee graduated from Texas Tech in 1966 with a Bachelors of Business Administration, and followed this with a Masters of Business Administration in 1969. During his time at Tech he was the President of the Freshman Class, a member of the Saddle Tramps, President of the Board of Student Organizations, and a ROTC cadet.

    Following graduation, Murfee joined the US Army and wassent to Vietnam. From July 1970 - July 1971, Murfee served as Company Commander for the HHC 41st Signal Battalion, stationed in Qui Nhon, Vietnam. During his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, a Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal.

    After his tour in Vietnam, Murfee returned to Lubbock where he served on a number of boards and commissions, including the South Plains Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Lubbock ApartmentAssociation, the Rotary Club, the Lubbock County Historical Commission, the Lubbock Association of Realtors, and many more. Murfee currently resides in Lubbock with his wife of 45 year, Pam. They have a son, Jay, of Plano, and a daughter, Marianne McPherson, of Lubbock, and six grandchildren.
